After Care It is very important that you follow these guidelines. A really beautiful tattoo can turn into a disaster if the proper aftercare is not taken.

You were tattooed in a modern studio with sterilized instruments and pigments. If you follow these simple instructions, you will have a quick healing and attractive tattoo.

Gently remove the bandage after approximately 4-6 hours. If the bandage is sticking, use water to moisten it. Wash it with warm water and a mild antibacterial soap. Gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. Allow your tattoo to air dry for 24 hours. Apply a super thin layer of POLY-SPORIN OINTMENT. Your tattoo may “weep” for the first few days, this is normal. Don’t’ be alarmed if there is ink in the weeping, this too is normal. Also DO NOT re-bandage your tattoo.

Wash and apply POLY-SPORIN OINTMENT to your tattoo twice daily for the first 3-5 days or until the weeping/scabbing stops. This is when you start to apply a non-scented (fragrance free) moisture such as Curel or Aveeno. Be sure to keep it as clean as possible. Always wash your hands before applying ointment or touching your tattoo. It is an open wound and can get infected without proper hygiene.

Absolutely NO sun for at least 3 weeks. Should you expose your tattoo to the sun be sure to apply sunscreen after it is healed with is approximately 14 days after the procedure to prevent damage.

No swimming or soaking in water, including baths for at least 3 weeks. Soaking in water harbors bacteria as well causing premature lifting of scab tissue, which will result in color loss. However, it is okay to shower with a fresh and healing tattoo. Don’t penetrate the area with too much water try to keep it out of direct water as much as possible.

VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:

  • When drying yourself gently pat the tattoo area clean and dry from water. DO NOT rub as damages may occur.
  • Your tattoo may start peeling anywhere between 3-5 days if at all. This is normal. DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH your tattoo, you WILL damage that will result in ink loss.
  • Do not pick or scratch your tattoo at any time
  • Do not let any friends or animals touch your tattoo as hands carry germs which could cause infections.
  • Donec eget diam in turpis

Frequently Asked Questions The decision to get a tattoo is a big one - particularly if it's your first; you might have questions about selecting tattoo designs. Here are some FAQ's designed to help you through the process and make the decision that's right for you.

Embedded Darkness meets and exceeds all Ontario Health Board standards: All of our staff is knowledgeable in sterilization and cross contamination prevention, and takes great care to adhere to the required practices. Brand new pre-sterilized needles are used for each tattoo application, and both needles and needle bar are disposed of thereafter in sharps containers. All sharps are picked up regularly and incinerated by a professional medical waste disposal company. Tattoo tubes and non-disposable equipment are logged and processed through a steam autoclave that is spore tested bi-monthly via Germiphene Corporations BSAFE sterilizer monitoring program, these results are available to the client upon request. Barriers are used on all applicable surfaces and equipment to prevent any cross contamination.
Consultation appointments are free and may be booked over the phone. Tattoo appointments may only be booked over the phone if you have a standing deposit with Embedded Darkness. Deposits are a minimum of $80 dollars cash or debit, and are taken at the end of a consultation appointment and applied to the final sitting of your tattoo. We do not accept credit card as a method of payment for deposits, although you may pay for your tattoo with Visa or Master card. Requested deposit amounts may increase with larger work.
We require a $100 non-refundable deposit for ALL tattoo appointments. The Deposit holds your appointment and is applied to your final balance for tattoo time. There are absolutely no refunds on deposits or draw fees. Since we do not allow refunds on deposits, please make sure you are absolutely certain that you want to get your tattoo and that you are able to get one before you make a deposit.

We have a 24-hour reschedule policy: if you need to change your appointment date or time we just ask that you call 48 hours in advance of your appointment and we will still honor your deposit to your next appointment. If you do not provide enough notice, don't show up, or are more than 30 minutes late you lose your deposit and your appointment.

We are also enacting a time limit on deposits. If we don't hear from you for 12 months after receiving a deposit, we will assume you are not moving forward on the tattoo and will forfeit your deposit.
In order to cancel or reschedule an appointment you must call the shop during business hours (noon-8pm) or contact your artist directly. Please note that all messages left after 8PM will not be checked until the following day. All deposits are non-refundable.
This is the first question in this FAQ because it's usually the first question that people ask. The answer is yes. Having needles pierce your skin hurts. The proper question is 'How much does it hurt, and can I handle it?

It's not nearly as bad as what you might imagine. The pain comes from the cluster of needles on the tattooing machine piercing your skin rapidly. This sensation, however, doesn't feel like the pain of an injection - it's more of a constant vibration. You will be amazed at how quickly your body releases endorphins, which dulls the pain significantly.

The pain will vary depending where on your body you get tattooed. Skin right above bones tend to be more painful than other areas. In addition, certain types of needles seem to hurt more than others.

NOTE: Do not drink alcohol or take drugs for pain relief purposes prior to your tattoo session(s). Both aspirin and alcohol thin blood and promote excessive bleeding. Aspirin also decreases the clotting of blood, which will slow down healing.
We guarantee one free touch up within the first year of your tattoo. Touch-ups are for correcting imperfections that might happen during the healing process. It's not unusual for some people to have a little bit of color come out of their tattoo during healing and we will always fix that sort of thing for free, as long as the aftercare instructions were followed. We want every client to be completely happy with their tattoo.

Aspects that are not considered a free touch up would be: additions, color changes, or refreshing colors that have faded due to sun exposure. You are expected to care for your tattoo in the long-term by keeping it out of the sun, and applying sunblock whenever necessary to keep it from fading.
You should have some kind of artwork ready when you come to see us. When you come in to get your tattoo, be sure to dress appropriately: be comfortable (not fashionable), and wear something that gives easy access to the area to be tattooed. Be well-rested, fed, and hydrated. Feel free to bring in some sort of entertainment: an MP3 player, a good book, etc. to help pass the time. Before you start, you will fill out a release form (you'll need your ID), and your artist will make a stencil of your design. Your artist will place the stencil on you and you'll get to decide exactly where and how big it will be. Then the tattoo will begin! If you're in for a longer session, you may want to consider getting a ride from a friend afterwards because of the endorphine rush you will experience. After your tattoo session is done, the artist will send you home with instructions and a TAT Care Kit that will contain everything you need to take care of your tattoo.
